Cubans seeking visas to travel to U.S. line up before 8 a.m. outside the embassy. Throughout much of the revolution, Cubans who left for the U.S. were derided by Cuban officials leaders as "scum" or "worms." But increasingly Cubans move back and forth between the two countries. CNN's Havana-based correspondent Patrick Oppmann gets an exclusive first look at the new sign for the U.S. Embassy in Cuba. Diplomats kept the sign in the embassy basement. The Eagle Bar in the U.S. Embassy in Havana. The eagle had originally sat atop a monument to the 260 American sailors who died when the USS Maine exploded in Havana in 1898. The incident triggered the Spanish-American war which ended Spain's years of rule over the island. In January 1961 a mob of Cubans incensed over the rising tensions between the government of Fidel Castro and the United States, tore down the eagle from the monument. But a group of pro-U.S. Cubans rescued the head and brought it to the U.S. Embassy. (Crédito: Patrick Oppmann/CNN)
